Here ist another one of the reasons, why I hate Facebook… others are in the other post here.
So, one reason is, that proposals are not matching at all. I get shitload with trains, food, celebrities and football every day.
This should also not match me, but it scares me:
Vinyl Digital is a webshop, which is selling vinyl records. On the surface I don’t have anything to do with vinyl records. Furthermore, I dismiss all posts about food, eminem (or rap) is absolutly not my favorite kind of music. There is only one connection to me, one of my Facebook Friends likes vinyl records very much. But since we first met twenty-something years ago, so no special reason to show me something about vinyl records RIGHT NOW. And – of course – there are hundreds of other shops selling vinyl records.
The Facebook Mystery
But now the scary thing.
Vinyl Digital is one of my new customers since 1 month and I am not convinced of pure coincidence in this case.
The screenshot shows the posting as „4 Tage“ = (Four days before). This day, I was at Vinyl Digital on site.
I wouldn’t wonder, if I had a Facebook App installed on my cell phone or my tablet or my laptop. But I’m using Facebook only from a specific desktop PC at home and another specific PC in my room at my parents house. That is on purpose, because I don’t want share informations with Facebook while I’m on the road/outside (and I don’t like spy software at all). I don’t have instagram or another Meta associated applications running on my devices. Facebook shouldn’t know, that I was there or that I’m associated with Vinyl Digital.
Because I have to do something about their website (which has a – unintended – „retro“ design), I loaded the website several times. There is no Facebook associated http query while loading (or later). I did’nt mentioned Vinyl Digital nowhere until now, I only had some mails with the company – but the company didn’t mailed me from one of their „official“ e-mail addresses (for some reasons I don’t discuss here, it is part of the contract).
So, there is no obvious connection between me and Vinyl Digital, but Facebook found it.
MAYBE one of my contacts at Vinyl Digital has answered my mails from a smartphone with facebook app. If so, I’m scared again.
It is really time to shut down this so called „social network“ for me. My advice is to do the same.
