I’m working in webtracking (the absolutely GDPR, EU, and ethical legal side), but this realy scared me today.
That fucked my brain, I really hate it.
So, what happened here?
There is a new baby in the company, so I looked up for a plushie on ebay, but I’m not logged in to ebay (you see „Hallo! (Einloggen)“ = „log in“). This PC is a notebook and it is connected via VPN, I used the google chrome browser. That is what you see on the right side of the picture.
Two hours later, I checked some ebay messages on my desktop PC at home. I’m logged in and after reading the messages, I go to the startpage of ebay. And… the same item (exactly, same article number) appears on my deskop PC, you see it on the left side of the picture. I’m using Mozilla Firefox at home. WTF?
So, other browser, other IP, other log in status, other screen size, other hardware. I WAS logged in with the notebook some times before (has to be at least one year), but the cookie still seems to connect these two.
I really hate it. From my personal opinion, this kind of webtracking has to die! Even if I will lose my job, I would sacrifice myself.
